All things have a beginning. Negative self-talk can originate from several root causes.
Today, let’s look at the devastation of COMPARISON.
When I was a young teen, Farrah Fawcett was in vogue with her thick, long blonde hair, thin lips and long legs. I tried to hide my very full lips beneath my hands a lot and decided my 5’2” frame and fine blonde hair were definitely lacking. Interestingly enough, about 15 years later full lips were all the rage, but the damage was already done as I had decided “I wasn’t pretty enough, thin enough, tall enough.”
I added those weapons of words to my arsenal of negative self-talk.
Trying to run someone ELSE’S race deceives us into running on a track not made for us – like trying to play tackle football in a swimsuit or dance in snow skis.
There may even be some pride – ouch! – of thinking we know better than God how He should have designed us.
Who have you compared yourself to?
What did you believe about yourself after you decided you came up short?
Would you like to be free of the pain of comparison?
If so, it might be helpful to start with asking God to forgive you for believing the lies of the world as to what makes you valuable – the right body, job, income, IQ, etc. Next, ask Him to give you the grace to trust His creativity and holiness in how He chose to perfectly create you.
Then, you can be free to start your own trend and be the most beautiful and authentic version of yourself to glorify your Creator!
